Go Deep
(Eph. 3:16-19)
Read the passage. Note anything that stands out to you.
Did your life take root in soil that was rich in love when you were a child? If not, have you ever rooted in such soil? Explain.
Note the two images Paul uses in verse 17 – agricultural (rooted) and construction (established). What does the agricultural image teach us? What about the construction image?
Why are both images necessary? How do they complement each other?
In your opinion, is the church a source of love for people? What are some ways our church could be better at this?
Do you agree that being loved is a prerequisite to certain kinds of strength? Explain.
Is being unloved a cause of weakness? If so, how?
Does a person need to be strong to grasp some truths, like the truth of Christ’s love? If you answered yes, why do you think this is so?
What point is Paul trying to make when he writes of width, length, height, and depth? Compare with Job 11:7-9.
How can anyone know something that surpasses knowledge (v. 19)?
Read verse 19. What is the purpose – the end result Paul is looking for – to this prayer?
What does Paul have in mind when he desires the Ephesians to “be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God”? Is this even possible? What does it mean?
Would our church be different if it was so filled? In what ways?
Based on this passage, what is one thing our church should do?
