Read Colossians 1:1-13. What stands out to you?
What virtues had Paul heard were present in the Colossian Church (see 1:3-5, 8)?
Read 1:4. Is there a relationship between faith in Christ and love for the saints? If there is, what is entailed in it?
Why motivated Paul to pray as he did for the Colossians – what is the “reason” (verse 9) that he had not stopped praying for them?
What do you think: why was love for the saints a sign to Paul that these Colossians needed (and were worthy recipients of) prayer?
If a Christian carries on without regard for God’s will, how will that impact his life and choices?
If a church carries on without regard for God’s will, how will that impact its life and choices?
Verse 9: What is “spiritual” about wisdom and understanding? Is there such a thing as wisdom and understanding that is not spiritual?
Why does God give the knowledge of his will through wisdom and understanding rather than through signs or special revelations, like angel messengers? Is it somehow better this way?
Can wisdom exist apart from understanding and vice-versa, or are they dependent upon one another?
For what reason did Paul ask God to fill the Colossians with the knowledge of his will?
What does it mean to live a life worthy of the Lord? Is anyone capable of doing this? How?

What practical steps might a person take who wanted to know God’s will?
